How many hours of work does it take to buy GTA VI? We compared the Standard Edition's local price with local wages in 39 countries.

A minimum-wage worker in Switzerland earns GTA VI in 3.2 hours. In Nigeria it takes 264 hours — about 82× longer. In the US it takes 11 hours at the federal minimum wage.

01How we did it

Methodology

Price. The GTA VI Standard Edition price on the official PlayStation or Xbox store, or Rockstar's store, in local currency. Where no official local price was published, we estimate it from the standard regional pricing tier and mark it with an asterisk.

Wages. The statutory minimum wage converted to an hourly rate using each country's standard working hours, and average gross monthly earnings from national statistics offices, the OECD or the ILO (the latest year available), converted to an hourly rate. Every figure has a source on its country page.

Formula. Hours of work = local price ÷ hourly wage. USD values use approximate October 2026 exchange rates and are only shown for comparison; the hours figure does not depend on exchange rates.

Limits. Wages are gross, taxes and sales offers are ignored, and informal work is not captured. Treat the index as a comparison, not a precise cost of living measure.

What is the GTA VI Index?

The GTA VI Index measures how affordable Grand Theft Auto VI is around the world. Like The Economist's Big Mac Index, it compares one identical product across countries — here, the GTA VI Standard Edition ($79.99 in the US) — and divides the local price by local hourly pay to get the hours of work needed to buy it.

In which country is GTA 6 most affordable?

Measured against the minimum wage, Switzerland is the most affordable: 3.2 h of work at CHF 79.90. Measured against average earnings, Denmark leads with 1.8 h.

Where is GTA 6 least affordable?

Nigeria: a minimum-wage worker needs about 264 h of work to buy GTA VI at NGN 106,601 — roughly 82 times longer than in Switzerland.

How many hours does it take to buy GTA 6 in the US?

At the federal minimum wage of $7.25, about 11 h. At average US earnings, about 2.6 h.

Why two measures?

The minimum wage shows what the game costs the lowest-paid workers, which is where price differences hurt most. Average earnings show what it costs a typical worker. Some countries (such as Switzerland and the Nordics) have no national minimum wage, so they only appear in the average-wage ranking.
